SOUTH SUDAN

The Republic of South Sudan became the newest country in the world on July 9, 2011. After years and years of civil war, genocide, and horrible atrocities that have taken place to the people of South Sudan they are now free. While they are relishing in their new found freedom they are also trying to build a new nation with the much needed infrastructure they have never had including hospitals, clinics, and schools. The need is huge as refugees from the north are fleeing to the South in hopes of a new home and to escape from the oppressive regime in the north. We have just started working in a very remote area of South Sudan.

We are working with Pastor James in Mayen Pajok village in Gogrial West county of the Warrap State. The Mayen Pajok area is surrounded by water for more than half the year due to the rains and no bridges or road access to the area during the rainy season.

There are approximately 10,000 people in the area that live on less than $1.00 per day. Below is a project we just finished in a village called Raul, to help clean the water they get from the river, which was causing illnesses and death. Now they are able make that same water safe for drinking. For more information on our upcoming work in South Sudan please go to the New Project page and read about how we are working towards building a clinic in this remote area.

We took a chlorination unit to the village in Mayen Pajok and trained two of the local men how to use it. They are now making the solution and going house to house chlorinating the water. We were able to buy them one bicycle so they can travel faster, we are hoping to purchase another one so they can go to more homes.
