One person's desire to help can change the life of many...... Nepal has a great need due to the armed conflict and the caste system. I have included part of an email from the founder of an orphanage we are working with in response to my question: How and why did you start and orphanage? The answer from Buddhiman Pariyar: "I have worked more than two decades as a teacher in my village followed by the school monitoring job in my district (Lamjung). I always had a feeling of supporting the little kids, particulary those from backward castes and communities like mine. When I came to Kathmandu I found many kids homeless, mainly those droven out due to the armed conflict. Many of my kids are orphaned due to the conflict. Initially I worked for some child organisations but I was not satisfied and started my own. Many kids were brought to me from individuals looking for support of the destitute kids. All kids have recommendations from their respective Village Development Committees (VDCs) mentioning their dire situations in their homes. That is how I select the kids. In some cases I also attempt to visit their homes to see the real situation." BUDDHIMAN'S NEW BUSINESS:Buddhiman has opened a small shop and is working as a tailor, he has been able to supply the orphanage with vegetables and school supplies with the money he is making. Buddhiman and Indrakala Would you like to get involved by volunteering or help support the work financially? click here
